Classic Seventh-Day Adventist Potluck Recipes

Image
Discover how Adventist potlucks blend faith, food, and fellowship—with classic vegan recipes, cultural traditions, and crowd-pleasing casseroles. The Potluck as Cultural You need to understand that potlucks (or "fellowship meals") are to Adventist Christians what a catwalk is to the fashionista. This is the place where we gather to catch up on our lives, to mingle with visitors (Adventist Christians from elsewhere) and guests (former- or non-Adventists who either dropped in on their own or were brought as a guest of a member), and to nosh down on great vegetarian and/or vegan chow. After the meal people depart to a nature walk, an afternoon service in a nursing home, a video about witnessing or a personal ministries committee meeting, etc. About 35% of Adventists worldwide are reported to be vegetarian, some eating eggs and/or dairy products (ovo-lacto vegetarian) and some a more strict vegan (no animal flesh or by-products). Gluten-Free Millet Pie Crust

Image
Here are two gluten-free vegan pie crust recipes using millet flour—one for a savory veggie pie and one for a banana cream pie. Each recipe includes the full instructions for the pie. Why Use Millet Flour? Millet flour is a nutritious, gluten-free alternative to wheat flour, offering a mild, slightly nutty flavor.  It’s rich in fiber, protein, and essential minerals like magnesium, phosphorus, and iron, which support digestion, heart health, and energy metabolism. Millet also contains vitamins, and is particularly abundant in Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) and B2 (Niacin), and is also a very good source of other B vitamins, including B9, folic acid.  Unlike over-refined flours, millet has a low glycemic index, making it a great choice for balanced blood sugar levels. Its light texture works well in both sweet and savory dishes, making it an excellent base for gluten-free baking. 3 Recipes for Gluten-Free Sourdough Discard

Image
3 yummy recipes made from gluten-free sourdough discard and 2 other gluten-free flours. Sourdough bread has a number of healthy attributes, as we likely all know from our experimentation during the Pandemic Pause.  This time around we are working with a gluten-free starter (1/4 cup of brown rice and 2 tablespoons of filtered water--tap water has chemicals that can slow down the starter).  I take out 1/2 of the starter each morning, and then feed it again. I also feed it in the evening before going to bed. The portion of starter I remove-- the "discard"-- I either put into the fridge or I use it to make something.  GLUTEN FREE SOURDOUGH FOR EVERYONE Amazon Associate The following three recipes are a great way to use up the day's discard in a delicious, gluten-free, vegan way.  Gluten-free, vegan, Lemon-Ginger Pancakes (Firefly generated)   1.
