My husband Ed and I are into our 70s now. You would think that we would have settled down into a more regulated vegan diet, something fairly simple but delicious, healthy but with no medicinal vibes. Heck, no. Here I am always on the prowl for more and more novel plant-based yumminess. And Ed is even learning to cook what I like, the way I like it.
We are, I guess, foodies. Is that still a word?
I have also established that although I like to "vegan-ize" conventional comfort food recipes, even fuse them such as my vegan perogy poutine recipe, I also really enjoy other people's adventuresome plant-based creations. So, as you will likely notice, I tend to be a recipe "curater" in my blogs these days, choosing to mount links to other people's recipe blogs that I am pretty sure I couldn't improve upon. By doing so, I have a sort of cookbook on line that we can turn to when we decide the menu for the week (I wish we actually did that hahah).
Today we are featuring some wonderful, flavorful recipes that are the product of tofu cubes immersed in a baggy of marinade in the fridge for an hour or so and then air- fried and eaten with sumptuous dips or added to salads, pizzas, wraps, tortillas, casseroles-- and we are featuring not just ONE marinade, but EIGHT! But only two links, because 8 of the marinades are from 1 blog post. Okay, enough of these confusing numbers!
8 MARVELOUS MARANADES FOR TOFU TREATS!
Sarah, at the Live, Eat, Learn blog describes herself as a sensory science specialist and a flavor-loving nutritionist! Her special tofu marinades can attest to that.
She recommends making the marinade of choice and adding it and the pressed, cubed tofu to the bag for about an hour or more in the fridge. The tofu (particularly if it has been frozen and thawed and pressed) will just suck up that marinade in no time. And you are left with a flavourful tofu treat.
The eight marinade recipes include (ALL vegan):
Every marinade comes with an Air Fryer recipe and suggestions for how to plate/use. I intend to sample all of them. --->> link to the recipe at Live Eat Learn
HONEY AND GARLIC--I'm Home
The other delightful air fryer tofu recipe is air fried up crispy and then smothered in a delicious honey-garlic sauce. Learn how to make it over at Hello Spoonful !
Comments and Questions: Yes, Honey and Chicken Broth are called for in the recipe for the Honey and Garlic Sauce, both of which strict vegans would be adverse to using. My son sees himself as a "beegan"-- generally plant-based/vegan, but eating honey on occasion, arguing that honey is an animal product, but actually "just passes through the bee". (As an ethical vegan, it is difficult to accept that argument since the honey is generally meant as sustenance for the hive members and not humans). So, you could use maple syrup or perhaps molasses and some additional sweetener in lieu of honey, and water or a vegetable broth could be subbed for the chicken broth.
