Hot Carob Drink

Mmmm hot carob!  Have you tried it?  If not, you might be surprised to know that it is a creamy, dreamy sweet drink-- like cocoa, but creamier and without the bitterness.  And without caffeine. And without theobromine. And, as I discovered, it helps to settle a wonky tummy (otherwise known as 'diarrhea'). Without creating the reverse 'issues' (i.e., constipation). Or, that is what it did in this household. I am not a medical practitioner, just someone looking for a possible help for a problem and finding many indications that a hot carob drink can 'do the trick'. See this article in Healthline , for example. Please check it out with your own health provider. I have baked with carob powder (muffins, cakes, cookies, bliss balls) and carob chips, but hadn't checked out the hot drink. I like it better than cocoa (hot chocolate). THE SIMPLE RECIPE FOR 1 CUP OF HOT CAROB DRINK: For one mug of hot carob: Slowly heat a cup of non-dairy milk on the stove until it

Welcome to Tasty AND Healthy!

Those who understand the laws of health and who are governed by principle, will shun the extremes, both of indulgence and of restrictions. Their diet is chosen, not for the mere gratification of appetite, but for the upbuilding of the body. They seek to preserve every power in the best condition for the highest service to God and man. . .                The Ministry of Healing, by E.G. White,  p. 319
This is an interesting concept for me... I always thought that the more disciplined the diet (i.e., rigid, restricted), the more desirable it would be from a 'spiritual' perspective.  Back in the day, I was excited to find out that the vegetarian cooking classes offered at the Comox Adventist Church in Courtenay, BC would include a  wealth of recipes that resulted in tasty AND healthy dishes.

Our "Dean" of the Cooking classes (I can almost hear her snorting dismissively at such a grandiose title) was Wyona Hertwig.  Before offering one or two vegetarian cooking classes a year out of the hall at 4660 Headquarters Road in Courtenay, Wyona worked in health food stores and bakeries, painted signs, taught elementary school and cooked healthy from scratch as a mom to five kids (and now as a grandmother to many grandkids and great-grandbabies).

Tasty AND Healthy AND Economical AND Attractive to the Eye AND Fragrant-- these are the principles employed in the vegetarian cooking classes that Wyona organized.  Every year she gathered together recipes following a theme and branches into sub-themes: recipes for people with allergies and sensitivities; vegetarian dishes from across Canada; food for young children; recipes for people with serious health issues such as cancer and diabetes; recipes for transitioning from the S.A.D. to vegetarianism.  It's all good!

This site provides recipes that Wyona collected and presented in the cooking schools, as well as other contributors' recipes and some 'traditional' Adventist recipes.  As time went on, other wonderful plant strong, whole food (vegan) recipes were added that were not necessarily found in Adventist cookbooks or presented in the Cooking Schools, but are the sort of delicious and healthy plant strong fare that today's vegan (and transitioning vegan) looks for! We hope you enjoy what you try-- and if you do, please leave your encouraging comments! (thank you)

If you are looking for a recipe, search for the primary ingredient. You should see the recipe  as a result of the ingredient being a key word in the description. ALL of the recipes on here are written up as VEGAN and/or PLANT-BASED so you will not find items containing eggs, dairy, or other animal products. Just type in "pecan" to the search bar and you will receive all the  recipes that contain pecans in their ingredient list. Thank you!
